When can you split in blackjack after the dealer exposes the next card by mistake?

Random rules question.

Let’s say you’re dealt a pair and haven’t acted yet. Before you can make a decision, the dealer accidentally exposes the next card that was supposed to stay in the shoe.

Would you still be allowed to split, or would the hand have to be restarted because you’ve now seen information you weren’t supposed to?

I figured the blackjack split rules would cover something like this, but everything I found assumes the dealer never makes mistakes.

Has anyone actually seen a casino handle this in real life?

Floor call. Exposed card gets taken out of play, new card comes out, everyone waits around. I’ve seen it twice and both times the procedure was different.
