Need to learn how to play online blackjack for a design project

This is probably going to sound like a weird reason to ask.

I’m a UI designer, and a client wants me to redesign the interface for an online blackjack game. The problem is… I’ve never actually played blackjack myself.

I can make the buttons look nice, but I have no idea what information players are actually paying attention to during a hand or what the flow is supposed to feel like. I started watching gameplay videos, but after a while I realized I was just copying layouts without understanding why things were where they were.

So before I keep designing something I don’t understand, I figured I should actually learn the game from a player’s perspective.

Is there a simple way to get the basics without spending hours on tutorials? I don’t need advanced strategy right now-I just want to understand how online blackjack works well enough that the interface actually makes sense.

lol I’d honestly rather have a designer who HASN’T played a thousand hands.

Players get used to weird layouts and stop noticing bad UX. Someone new is way more likely to ask “why is this button even here?” :joy:

Gameplay vids are overrated tbh.

Open a demo table instead. Click everything. Make mistakes. You’ll figure out the flow way faster than watching some guy explain it for 45 minutes.

As someone who’s worked with developers, please don’t design the interface before you understand the online blackjack rules. I’ve seen projects where the “Hit” and “Stand” buttons looked amazing… but half the game flow made no sense because nobody on the team actually knew how blackjack worked.

Hot take…Half the casino apps out there feel like they were designed by people who never touched blackjack in their lives :sweat_smile:So yeah, spending an evening actually playing before opening Figma again already puts you ahead of a surprising number of teams.
