Hi everyone!
I played free bet blackjack for a little while this week, and I understand the appeal now. It feels nicer than regular blackjack at first because the game sometimes lets you double or split without putting up extra money yourself. That sounds like a dream when you are used to staring at an 11 and thinking, βDo I really want to double this?β
But the game is not giving away free value for no reason. The catch is usually the dealer 22 rule. If the dealer reaches 22, many free bet blackjack rules say it is a push instead of a dealer bust. I had that happen once, and honestly, it was a little annoying. I was already counting the hand as a win in my head, then the table just gave me my bet back.
So yes, the free doubles and splits are nice, but they are not magic. The game gives you something, then takes something back somewhere else.
For free bet blackjack online, I would start with very small stakes and read the rule screen first. Check which hands qualify for free doubles and free splits, and check how dealer 22 is handled. A normal blackjack chart will not always fit perfectly here, so it helps to look up a proper free bet blackjack strategy before playing seriously.
I still think it is a fun version, especially if you enjoy more action. I just would not treat the word βfreeβ too literally.
