Bro, if someone actually wants to learn, get a proper blackjack book and stop living off random “trust me” posts ![]()
I’m not saying forums are useless. I’m literally on one. But half the blackjack advice online is just vibes wearing a fake moustache. “Always take insurance,” “never hit 16,” “increase after every loss” — yeah cool, enjoy funding the dealer’s holiday.
For basics, I’d rather see someone start with a simple blackjack guide book or beginner-focused material before touching advanced counting. If you want names, The World’s Greatest Blackjack Book by Lance Humble and Carl Cooper is old but still useful for fundamentals. Blackjack Bluebook II by Fred Renzey is also pretty readable if you don’t want your brain melted on page 3.
For deeper stuff, Beat the Dealer by Edward O. Thorp is the famous classic. It basically changed how people talked about blackjack maths. Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong is another big one, especially for Hi-Lo counting. Blackjack Attack by Don Schlesinger is serious, but not where I’d send a day-one beginner unless I wanted them to quit reading forever.
A good blackjack strategy book should explain basic strategy, table rules, 3:2 vs 6:5 payouts, doubling, splitting, surrender, insurance, bankroll, and why “systems” don’t magically fix bad decisions. The best blackjack books don’t promise easy money. They teach you where the edge is lost.
